It has been a very dynamic, educational and challenging experience working on the permaculture site as well as continuing the experience in São Paulo with people from the site. I only spent one week actually on the site, but new opportunities have lead us to a project transforming a run-down city park into part of an open university using ideas from permaculture and sustainable living. The group has a meeting tomorrow with the mayor of Carapicuiba (which is basically part of São Paulo, though technically its own municipality), and then we will see if we are going to Brasilia, the capital of Brazil, to meet with the Minister of Education. It is certainly not the kind of experience that I thought I would have going to a farm far outside the city, but it is turning out to be a much more diverse and valuable experience than I could have imagined. With that said, below is a bit of an introduction to Sítio São Francisco. I also have footage from the Bioconstructing Workshop that Felipe hosted there, but I need some translating help before it can make any sense. Enjoy
My perspective is but one in 6 billion, and the way I portray the experiences and thoughts that I have on this adventure is on display for the world to share and scrutinize. This puts me in a delicate position.I do not claim to have the official and/or final judgment on the issues that I discuss. This is very much a learning experience for me. I encourage participation from the online community to cultivate a meaningful dialogue and a constructive confluence of perspectives, but I ask that you exercise discretion and respect for everyone else involved. This project is about cultural understanding, respect, and exchange. So join the adventure, share your ideas, and let’s make a difference!
I am a twenty-something pragmatic idealist fascinated by the world and inspired by its people. I love adventure, music, laughter, and you (in a universal, platonic, non-creepy way of course).
This is my current project: 20 countries in 12 months trying to make a difference in the world. Feel free to leave comments on the blog or shoot me an e-mail (twentytwelves@gmail.com) and give me your feedback on the blog topics, the countries I travel through, or anything else for that matter. Cheers!
